Final Reflections #Selfie

It  is the last day of #EXSM3988 social media course, lots of useful tools to apply when managing Social media channels from a business perspective including:

1- How to create an effective blog keeping in mind a consistent posting strategy including the relevant labels and visuals
2- How to create a business Facebook page to reach out to a specific target audience and how to keep it fresh and updated with the relevant content
3- Great analytical metrecis to listen to your audience and revise your social media strategy accordingly
4- Great information to search for the relevant #hashtag on twitter and how to use advanced search

Final Selfies and Reflection

Here we are at the end of our second and final day of class, and I'm taking another set of selfies.

I learned a ton of helpful tools and tips over the last two days. While I already had the basics of blog-building down, there were a ton of handy little tips that I hadn't known before: things like which sites to use in order to find keywords for optimizing posts, how to add apps to a blogger page, and that the best time of day for customer engagement on twitter is between 2-3am! (Who knew?)

It's been a great time. Thank you so much Jess for teaching us!

Selfie Intro Post

I decided on a 'surroundings selfie' (my own term). I tend to be drawn towards snapshots of someone's life (eg. Instagram). Whether it be actual photos of people or snippets of one's surroundings. I find that photos that do not necessarily show faces but instead their surrounding environment can communicate more about a person.

I took the photo using my i-phone and sent it to directly to my e-mail, no filter applied.

My friend once told me that she finds selfies fascinating because the picture is like a window into seeing how others view themselves. 

In-class selfie!

So hi. This is me.

My personal selfie-taking procedure is: Camera slightly up and to the right. Look up enough to avoid the double-chin but not enough for the shadow of my glasses to make it look like I've got a unibrow. Widen my eyes. Smile a touch. Raise my eyebrows. Click the button. Adjust expression. Take another picture. Repeat as needed.

Then, having chosen my desired picture, I open it in Instagram and play with filters. Choose my cross-post settings, type a witty caption, and voila!

Okay, maybe that's a lot of work for one little picture of my face but heeeyyyy selfie-esteem!

This is my story...Apparently it's all about me.

I created the selfie photo using my cell phone camera, then emailed to my UAlberta account, and uploaded into Blogger.  Pleased to have gotten this far in the exercise....

I used my favourite photo editing app VSCO for this photo. I use the T1 filter for all my instagram photos to create a cohesive feed. I'm not a big selfie taker but a little shameless self love is always good for the self-esteem.

I decided to take this selfie because it’s not really a selfie. I’ve heard that more people die taking selfies than getting struck by lightning. And I’m not taking that risk! Plus, I think it represents this class because it showcases my lovely Twitter profile – with a pic from China that further represents the international nature of social media applications.
